Holiday Entitlement

< 1 min read

All employees are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday a year (known as statutory leave entitlement or annual leave) which is calculated pro-rata.

Part-time workers are entitled to at least 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday, but this will amount to fewer than 28 days.

For example, if they work 3 days a week, they must get at least 16.8 days’ leave a year (3 × 5.6).

Limits on statutory leave

Statutory paid holiday entitlement is limited to 28 days. For example, staff working 6 days a week are only entitled to 28 days’ paid holiday.

Bank holidays

Bank or public holidays are not given as paid leave and will be included as part of an employee’s statutory annual leave.

Accural

Annual leave begins to build up (‘accrue’) as soon as you start your job. Indigo Hair & Beauty uses an accrual system to work out how much leave you can get.

Leave year

The leave year for all employees runs from 1st April to 31st March. Employees must take leave during this time.

The leave year and holiday entitlement is not affected by maternity, paternity or adoption leave. You still builds up (‘accrues’) holiday over these periods.
